Macmillan Coffee Morning

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning

We took part in the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning to raise money for those affected by cancer.

Friday 14th September saw the MyOptique offices in London and Swindon take part in the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning. We managed to raise £123.40 (a massive improvement from the £88 raised last year) in total for the cause that helps provide support for those living with cancer. Staff were asked to bring in cakes (baked and bought) to be exchanged for donations. To make things interesting there was a prize for Star Baker. Our London winner was Andie White, whose Vanilla Sponge Piñata cake was a favourite. Our Swindon winner was Tom Hambidge, who won everyone over with his Toblerone Pie.

About Macmillan Coffee Morning

The very first coffee morning took place in 1990 with a simple idea in mind: bringing people together over coffee and donating the cost of drinks to Macmillan. It did so well that the next year they repeated it again only this time on a national scale. Since then Macmillan has raised over £200 million.

Examples of how money raised can help:

  • £28 – can pay for a Macmillan nurse for an hour to help those cancer and their families receive support
  • £134 – can help keep a Macmillan support centre stocked with essential information resources for two weeks
  • £210 – can pay for a Macmillan nurse for a day to help those with cancer and their families receive support
  • £370 – can pay to hire a room for a year where cancer self-help and support groups can hold regular meetings to support those affected by cancer in their community.

About Macmillan Cancer Support

Macmillan Cancer Support was founded in 1911, following the death of founder, Douglas Macmillan’s, father’s death. Today, Macmillan Cancer Support is one of the largest British charities that strive to treat those affected by cancer as people and not patients. This personal approach has helped offer millions the support they and their families deserve.

We can’t wait for next year’s coffee morning so much that we’ve already scheduled to have another at Christmas. Watch this space.
